You might be an artist
You might be an artist if:
You've ever cleaned your fingernails with your palette knife.
You notice the burnt umber in the background of the Playboy centerfold.
You choose a wine with an eye toward using the bottle in your next still life.
Your idea of losing weight is to paint a thinner self-portrait.
You've ever touched up a painting with white-out.
You've ever gotten cookie crumbs in the titanium white.
If your cat has chromium-oxide green paws.
You've ever painted an abstract and decided it might look better upside down.
You've ever considered framing your palette.
The highlights in your hair are from your palette not Clairol.
You chose to buy that new russian sable number 6 round instead of a big mac, large fries, a milkshake and 5 gallons of gas.

Green building

This building is in Ft. Loramie on the corner of Park and Main. It was once the Tecklenburg Hotel and the latest was Seger's. I painted it years ago and sold it.

John Joseph Enneking

John Joseph Enneking wasn't well-known to the public but he was a big deal in the art community and he was Minster's most important celebrity. He was a landscape painter who was born in Minster, Ohio in 1838. He lost his mother to the cholera epidemic in 1849 and his father died in 1850. Joseph studied in Cincinnati, fought in the Civil War and went to Boston. He married and his wife convinced him to resume his painting at which he was wildly successful. He made 3 trips to Europe to study with Leon Bonnat and Charles Daubigney. He settled down in Hyde Park, MA. and became one of the best known painters in the impressionist style. He died in 1916 leaving 4 children.
Joseph was on the jury of the art department of the Chicago World's Fair and probably the St. Louis World's Fair. He was also on the jury for the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh for 2 years and several other big expositions. He belonged to all the important art groups. One of his paintings was chosen for a UNICEF Christmas card one year. His paintings are in museums and galleries all over the world. The highest price his paintings have gone for is $78,000.
A big dinner was held in Boston for him in 1915 at which he said he owed everything he was to his wife who "agreed to live on potatoes rather than have me give up my art and ideals".

Seger's

This painting has been sold. It's in Ft. Loramie, Ohio. The green building is the old Seger's restaurant. At one time it was the Tecklenburg Hotel. On the right is Vogelsang's and straight ahead is Ft. Loramie Mills which has been torn down.

West of Kettlersville 8x10

This isn't one of my favorites but it's still for sale. It was once called Blumhorst School but I don't suppose anyone remembers that. Now it's used for farm storage.
